About this test

Designed to identify pathogens causing rectal infections, utilizing precise DNA sequencing techniques.

Main Infections Detected:

  • description-item-image

Prostate Biopsy, Yeast overgrowth, Antimicrobial resistance prior to surgery

The RectalKEY test provides critical diagnostic insights for rectal infections and serves as an essential tool for pre-procedural risk assessment in patients undergoing transrectal prostate biopsy By detecting bacterial and fungal growth, including those associated with antibiotic-resistant organisms and fungal overgrowth, this test enables targeted antimicrobial prophylaxis, reducing the risk of post-biopsy infectious complications such as sepsis, prostatitis, and urinary tract infections (UTIs).

Rapid sequencing using NGS technology, powered by advanced bioinformatics, enables broad microbial identification, detecting over 50,000 bacterial and fungal targets in a single sample. qPCR enables rapid detection of bacterial load and targeted pathogen identification, improving diagnostic sensitivity. The test also screens for 17 antibiotic resistance genes, supporting optimized antimicrobial therapy selection.

Validated for rectal swab samples, the test includes a sample collection kit and reports results within 3–5 days, facilitating timely and informed clinical decision-making for both infection management and biopsy preparation.

Interpreting our lab report

Each test includes a detailed laboratory report, providing clinicians with clear, structured data for fast decision-making. These reports include:

  • • List of bacteria and fungi detected in the sample(s)

  • • Identified antibiotic resistance genes

  • • Antimicrobials to consideration for treatment
